Turns out, the football team lost. BARELY!! It was 22-22, so they went to overtime. It was our ball, and they got it, and scored. I guess in high school during over time whoever scores first wins. So the final score was 22-25. It was so sad. :(
BUT, everyone left to go to this game. Not to sound heartless, but regardless if they were there or not, they would have lost. If they would have all stayed, we could have maybe had a chance of winning state for We The People. Oh well.
Yes, football and other sports and activities are important and make high school fun, BUT, it's not what its all about. People only care about themselves I've found out especially lately, and DO NOT CARE about ANYTHING. My school had 2 classes in the competition, and the other class had a blind boy. His WHOLE group left him, WITHOUT telling him, BEFORE they presented. Another girl, her whole carpool of friends left her to go to the game before she presented. She had no ride other than them, so her dad came to pick her up. To make it worse, everyone left this at like 9 to get to the game. Which didn't even start til 11. It wouldn't hurt anyone to show up a little late to a football game. At least stay for your friends if you aren't going to present yourself.
I've just been really frustrated with this whole dilemma. I'm not saying football isn't fun and I'm not proud of them going to state, or disappointed they lost. Because I am. I'm just saying people need to be considerate, not jerks, and stay committed.
It's also COMPLETELY biased. Mostly everyone only cares about football. WHY!? Our marching band took first in state, and NO ONE CARED. They got NO recognition for it. But, the week before the football game, everyone came to STUCO asking if we could sell shirts, have an assembly, start a spirit bus for the game. A WEEK IN ADVANCE. I'm sorry, but things like this take time to prepare. AND, next week is winter formal, and we have an assembly pretty much specifically for that, and they want us to take a minute out of the already cutting-it-close schedule to recognize the football. :P
20 years from now, we aren't going to care much that we almost won state, or how many school activities we went to. It's all gonna matter on how much we learned so we could do well in college. Yes, we'll remember these things and remember how much fun we had. BUT, academics are important too. No one realizes that anymore, and it's sad. When they're older, I guarantee they'll wish they worked harder in school. Besides, intelligence is the only thing that we can take with us after we die. Not the football game.
