Today, my Children's Literature class took a "field trip" to Zaharis Elementary to visit the 5th grade class we've been pen-pal book-club writing. It was fun!
As I mentioned before, my cousin Bailee happened to be my buddy. So it was fun to visit with her again. Also, my cousins on the other side of the family (KayLee, Lynzee, and Maycee) switched over to that school a couple weeks ago. I saw Lynzee in the hallway, and we went into Maycee's class and read with them for a couple minutes.
This school is super cool. The 1st grade room has no chairs or desks. Just tables and pillows on the ground. There is stuff everywhere! Pinecones hanging from the ceiling, drawings on the walls, silhouettes bordering the ceiling... The hallways are painted with characters of different books. They have tortoises and an observatory! Ahh man this place was amazing.
THEN of course, after telling us their amazing philosophy, how neat the school is, how popular they are...that the chances of us working at a school like that are slim. Very slim. :( but hey, there's still little ways I can incorporate their style into my own teaching!
3 1/2 years (including the mission) and I'll be graduated!! Can't wait!! :D
